Depth Psychology is a long- term analytical process that studies ones psyche within Western psychological traditions and Eastern philosophical practices. We study the way one’s personality has been organized in a kind of ‘psychic map’. The organizing energies that create personalities are referred to as complexes. These complexes are charged with beliefs and affects that subject the individual to specific behavioral patterns and automatic reactions to his world and to his relationships. The orientation of depth psychology as I practice it is derived from the work of Carl Jung who said, “ when a man begins to know himself, to discover the roots of his past in himself, it is a new beginning.”
Depth psychology offers the student a salvational path to oneself and a conscious relationship with the great forces of nature that have informed one’s world. Using such soul-making forms in therapy as rituals, myths, fairytales, dreams, stories, poetry, art, and active-imagination, ones symptoms, suffering, and complexes can be understood and experienced through a new perspective; one’s personal story could be lived differently. The work of depth psychology is exploration and discovery and together, you and the therapist create the unanticipated, unexpected transformations that can occur within the alchemical nature and structure of the relationship.
